Courses and educational programmes
The members of the RCNP are involved in a wide variety of bachelor and master courses related to history, philosophy and foundations of physics and mathematics at both the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies as well as the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science. For an overview of all courses in the History and Philosophy of Physics in the Netherlands, check out the HPP-NL website. If you wish to educate yourself on Natural Philosophy you should read all works in the Canon of Natural Philosophy. Master programmes
Radboud University offers a diverse number of master programmes in the natural sciences, philosophy of science and the history of science in which members of the RCNP teach.
MA Philosophy of Natural and Life Sciences
This two year Dutch master is unique in the Netherlands and aligns closely with the research interests of the RCNP. It is open to students that have obtained a BSc in physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, computer science or a similar field and introduces them to philosophy, with a focus on history and philosophy of science and the philosophy of their own discipline. The first year consists of six introductory courses to Logic, Philosophy of Mind, Ethics, Philosophical Anthropology, Metaphysics and Political Philosophy, with a special focus on how each of these core philosophical disciplines relates to the student's own scientific discipline. The first year also contains two courses on philosophical skills, and specialised courses in Philosophy of Science and the History of Science. The second year consists of several specialisation courses in the philosophy of the natural and life sciences, master seminars in philosophy and a master thesis which is typically supervised by a member of the RCNP. This MA programme is frequently combined with MSc programmes in physics or mathematics.
MSc Physics & Astronomy
The two year English master Physics & Astronomy has various specialisations, of which Particle and Astrophysics is most closely related to the research of the RCNP. Students can choose from a wide variety of courses in high energy and mathematical physics. Especially noteworthy is the Gravity+ synergy track, which focuses entirely on (quantum) gravity and can be followed within Particle and Astrophysics or Mathematics.
MSc Mathematics
Students in the two year English master Mathematics can specialise in mathematical physics and have access to an extremely wide variety of courses, both from IMAPP as well as from the national Mastermath programme. The Gravity+ synergy track can also be followed within the master Mathematics.MSc Science in Society
The master's specialisation Science in Society can be followed within the regular MSc programmes of the faculty of science. It is run by the Institute for Science in Society, of which several members of the RCNP are a part. Various courses within the Science in Society specialisation are taught by RCNP members.RMA History of Philosophical and Scientific Thought
This two year master is part of the broader Research Master's in Philosophy. It is embedded in the Center for the History of Philosophy and Science and focuses on the joint history of philosophy and the (natural) sciences.MA History of Philosophy
This one year Dutch master is also embedded in the Center for the History of Philosophy and Science. Students learn to understand complex contemporary ideas like randomness and determinism by studying their combined philosophical and scientific history.Bachelor programmes
RCNP members teach in several bachelor programmes which prepare for the master programmes listed above.
